In this production, a veneer of elegance is cast over the cruelty and brutality involved in capturing and holding onto power. But Macbeth and Lady Macbeth'sworld becomes starker as they wade deeper into the blood of their enemies and the depths of their own madness. Throughout it all, the witches--in this case, the women of the castle's household staff--are watching and commenting. Kings rise and fall, but the maids remain, witnesses to it all.
